The virtual tour of airfields in Idaho’s backcountry inevitably leads us to Johnson Creek Airport, located about 3 miles (5 km) south of Yellow Pine in Valley County, which is known for its tree-filled landscapes and partly snow-cowered mountains! The 4960 feet (1512 meters) above sea level and 3400 feet (1 km) long runway was built in 1959 and experiences approcimately 5750 aircraft movements annually. This is a respectable number for its size and grass runway, which is why the runway is constantly maintained and looked after by caretakers from May to September.
Johnson Creek is also known for its luxurious camping facilities, rentable comfort caravans, fire pits, picnic tables and sanitary facilities with hot water, which make each visit especially comfortable and invite to explore the breathtaking surroundings. A genuine experience for true pilots!
For our virtual pilots of the Microsoft Flight Simulator, we unfortunately cannot offer shower facilities and hot water, but we provide an unforgettable adventure for all fans of bush flying and for those who would like to become one! Many details have been placed by hand for a realistic recreation of not only the airstrip, but also the entire environment including buildings based on the real ones and many more highlights, that are waiting to be discovered!
Approaching pilots, for example, should pay special attention to the irrigation system on the runway as it regularly changes its position. Changing lighting atmosphere and frequently gathering fog create new challenges when approaching Johnson Creek Airport, too!
Bush flying is all about pure freedom and with Johnson Creek we bring that freedom to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024! Experience the pristine and beautiful views of this idyllic landscape. Visit Johnson Creek Airport - it’s not just a flight, it’s a real adventure inthe Idaho wilderness!

Animated flags and wind socks
A really simple yet essential detail is the special windsock we created, which properly reflects both wind speed and wind direction! Observe the windsock and receive crucial information before takeoff! Also, there are some animated flags - we are in America, after all!
A wealth of detail as far as the eye can see
The eye for detail is one of our trademarks. Takeoff, landing, grass runway - yes, that's all nice and dandy! But we want players to let their gaze wander and discover the many details we incorporate into the airfields. You only feel truly welcome at an airfield when the surroundings are appealing, too. That's why we create themed decorations that make the airfield and its surroundings look truly realistic!

Spectacular scenery with a challenging approach
Aside from the many small details on the ground, players can also expect a precisely recreated runway, including the immediate surroundings of the airfield. The latter has been recreated with the same care as the airfield itself, so even less experienced pilots in the area can quickly recognize where they are and concentrate on the challenging approach between the mountains.
Features:
- HD objects and buildings with PBR textures
- Animated flags and wind socks
- Changing position of irrigation on the runway
- Great performance thanks to LODs for almost all objects
- Realistic night lighting
- Adapted environment around the airfield
